This film is a collective tale of silence, shame and sisterhood. With a topic that concerns and engages so many of us on a monthly basis, this film just has to be made! We can’t wait for change, we want to create it by opening up to conversation and to let the shame disappear. The next generation of menstruating people should not have to be ashamed or, for that matter, not have their illnesses treated. In Sweden today it takes over 8 years for a person suffering from endometriosis to get their diagnosis. We want this film to be a part of advocacy for better health and treatment for people suffering from diseases connected to menstruation.
Another topic which concerns us and which the film covers is female circumcision. Many suffer in silence. We want to help spread awareness and we follow Louise in her work. In the film we follow activists Elin and Louise in their struggle to change the negative perception of menstruation and our bodies. It’s a menstrual road trip through Sweden, a country where the self-image doesn’t seem to match reality. On their journey they share experiences with menstruators all over Sweden, meet some of Sweden’s experts on the topic and also question their own privileges.
